Moving with Mary: SoulCore and the Rosary

In a culture that often separates physical wellness from spiritual life, SoulCore offers a refreshingly integrated vision. It also deepens devotion to the Rosary and reflects the beauty of the Visitation, celebrated this Sunday, on May 31. Co-founded by Deanne Miller and Colleen Scarano, SoulCore brings together prayer and movement, inviting participants to engage body, mind, and soul in a deeper encounter with Christ.

SoulCore

As Deanne shared on the CCL PeakDay Podcast, SoulCore was born from a place of personal need and healing. After experiencing the power of combining movement and prayer in her own life, and witnessing Colleen’s healing through praying the Rosary while running, the two began developing a practice rooted in the Catholic understanding of the human person. What started in a basement with a few friends has now grown into an international apostolate, with trained leaders and participants across the globe.

At its heart, SoulCore is not primarily about exercise but also about prayer. Through the Rosary, participants meditate on the life of Christ while engaging in simple, functional movements. This union helps reduce distractions, fosters interior peace, and reminds us that our bodies are not separate from our spiritual lives, but essential to how we worship.

Moving with Mary

This vision aligns beautifully with our collaboration through Revelation90. There, SoulCore offers guided opportunities to pray and move throughout the challenge. Together, we are encouraging a more complete approach to wellness—one that reflects the dignity of the whole person and supports women in living out their vocations with intention and grace.

The month of May, dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, provides a fitting backdrop for this invitation. Through the Rosary, we walk with Mary as she leads us to her Son. In the Visitation—one of the Joyful Mysteries—we see Mary, newly carrying Christ within her, hasten to her cousin Elizabeth. Her journey is active, generous, and life-giving. She goes in service, bringing the presence of Jesus to another.

Love in Action

This moment reflects the beauty of accepting and carrying the gift of life, a truth at the heart of natural family planning and CCL’s mission. Like Mary, we are called to receive life with openness and to respond with love in action.

As St. Louis de Montfort, author of The Secret of the Rosary, reminds us:

“We never give more honour to Jesus than when we honour his Mother… We go to her only as a way leading to the goal we seek — Jesus, her Son.”

This May, consider entering more deeply into the Rosary—perhaps even through practices like SoulCore. In doing so, we honor Our Lady, care for the bodies God has entrusted to us, and draw closer to Christ, who is the source of all life and love.
