Know it or not, You’ve Read Humanae Vitae

If you’ve been keeping up with us on any of our social media pages (Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter), you certainly have seen our photo posts with Humanae Vitae quotes. We started that last July, and if you’ve read every single one of them, we’ve got news for you:
You’ve read the entire encyclical.
Of course, you haven’t read literally every sentence (many are redundant or used for clarification), but you’ve read all the main ideas and quite a few secondary concepts…in the words of Pope Paul VI himself.
For those who may not know, Humanae Vitae is the Church document that famously reasserted the Catholic rejection of contraceptive use in 1968, and it’s the founding document of the Couple to Couple League. We do what we do because of the call to action laid out in the encyclical, especially in paragraph 26 which says, “Among the fruits that ripen if the law of God be resolutely obeyed, the most precious is certainly this, that…like ministering to like, married couples themselves by the leadership they offer will become apostles to other married couples.”
Like to like, couple to couple, based on a church document, that you’ve already read!
Don’t believe us? Check out the original document here and compare it to the album of our posts, which will always be available here. We pulled from 26 of the 32 paragraphs in the document to bring you 97 modern, eye-catching, and — most of all — shareable images.
This year is Humanae Vitae’s 50th anniversary and now, thanks to this handy collection, sharing the wisdom of the Church has never been easier. Pick one or two to post on your profile each week until the big day on July 25, print them onto cardstock to leave in the narthex at your church, or find other creative ways to pass along the good news.
