Adam and Catherine’s Love Story

0777_catherineadam__ecw8212Real couples really do use NFP, and we asked them to tell us their NFP story. We will be sharing them here on the blog — the good parts and the struggles. Each of these couples is writing their own love story, and have chosen to do so by following God’s plan for marriage.

Here is Adam and Catherine’s story.

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Were you initially skeptical about NFP?

I was skeptical about the use of NFP not because of doubt about the method’s effectiveness, but about me and my husband’s ability to interpret and follow the rules. Several months of practice, trust and support from instructors helped us to overcome this doubt and practice NFP with ease of mind.

How was your class experience with CCL?

We took CCL’s Homestudy course (now replaced with the Self-paced Online Class). We learned together at home and at our own pace. We loved the practice charts and the lessons that CCL provided, in both religious and scientific contexts.

Was NFP difficult to learn?

No, the step by step explanations with articulate rules allowed for easy learning. The protocol for exceptions and missed observations helped to clear any confusion.

Has anything surprised you about NFP?

Yes! NFP has proven to be a wonderful learning experience for us. Our communication and respect for each other has grown more than we ever expected!

Who participates in observations, charting and interpreting?

My husband and I both have an NFP app on our phones. In the mornings, I take my temperature and my husband records it. It syncs with my app, where I record my mucus observations. At the end of the day we go over where I am in my cycle and what it means for us.

What changes have you seen in the dynamics of your relationship (if any) since starting natural family planning?

We have noticed an increased level of communication that goes beyond NFP.

Has NFP affected your relationship with God?

We have learned so much more about God’s plan for our family and have become closer by trusting Him. NFP showed us how to work with God’s plan for fertility instead of against it.
