What’s wrong with contraception?

Violations of the human body are violations of the individual human person and violations of love. This is why we should never alter a healthy, major functioning part of the body, because to do so is to treat the body as a thing or a machine. If we are not loving authentically, we can violate what it means to love as God loves, and often we end up using ourselves or others. Sometimes we do this without realizing it. Contraception — the use of mechanical, chemical or medical procedures to prevent conception from taking place as a result of sexual intercourse — involves the alteration of a healthy, major functioning part of the body. Therefore, it is a use of oneself and is unworthy of our dignity and value.

All forms of contraception violate at least one of the characteristics of love, and thus are immoral. They also have negative or harmful side effects.
