What will attending the convention cost?

The cost of attending Convention 2008 is a combination of the registration fee, housing, meals, and childcare.  For Convention 2008, overall cost will be higher than past conventions, but you will be staying at a first class convention center and sleeping rooms will be similar to that of a staying in a higher-class motel.

Housing

Ridgecrest offers a variety of accommodations to meet specific needs and budgets.  Only adults are charged for the housing-an adult is 18 or older, plus children stay free and towels and bedding are changed daily.  There are three housing choices for convention attendees.   

Mountain Laurel Inn offers the finest in guest accommodations including voice mail messaging systems, irons, coffee makers and computer data ports.  Each room has two queen beds and the cost is $85 per night for two adults  (Only 174 rooms available)

Rhododendron Inn offers generously large guest rooms for those who need a little extra space.  There are two double beds and has more living space than a deluxe room.  A standard room is $75 per night for two adults.  (Only 30 standard rooms available and recommended for larger families)

Royal Gorge Apartments offers guests seeking multiple bedrooms and in-room dining.  Units include full kitchens, refrigerator, stove, microwave and cookware.  There is one private bedroom along with a second bed within the living room.  (Only 31 apartments available and are suggested for larger families)

All of the sleeping rooms are available on a first come basis.  Ridgecrest has elected not to include television in any of its guest rooms.  Televisions are available in select available fellowship areas throughout campus.

Meals

The Rhododendron Dining Room is centrally located assuring attendees a very short walk from virtually every lodging venue.  The cafeteria includes eight serving lines to accommodate large groups quickly and efficiently.  The spacious dining room seats well over 800 people.

Meal Prices are based on 11 meals beginning with supper on Tuesday, July 29 and ending with breakfast on Saturday, August 2, 2008

Adult package: $120 per person
Children ages 6-11: $65 per person
Children age 5 and under: Free
Individual Meals:  $12 per person/per meal for adults as day attendees

Childcare

Children attending Convention 2008 will have a variety of activities for the three full days beginning on Wednesday, July 30 at 8:30 a.m. and ending at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, August 1.  Parents will be asked to register their children based on the last grade completed for the 2007-2008 school year.  (If your child completed sixth grade, then he or she will register with the day camp and will not be part of the teen group)

Parents will not under any circumstances be allowed to move their children into a different age group.  This is Ridgecrest policy.  No childcare will be provided to families registering for day attendance.  You must attend the full convention to register your children for childcare.

Childcare groups

  • Preschool age  (birth to completed kindergarten- ages 0-3 are optional-any child in this age group may stay with their parents) cost $20 per child/per day or a total of $60 per child/convention
  • Day-camp (completed first to sixth grade) cost $20 per child/per day or a total of $60 per child/convention
  • Teens (completed seventh to senior high school) cost $20 per person per day or total of $60 per person/convention
  • Special Needs Children  (One on one care) cost $10 per hour/per child or a total of $60 per child per day or a total of $180 per convention.  (This price is subject to a possible $1.00 increase by 2008)

A complete childcare schedule will be posted later this fall.  Parents are responsible for dropping off their children and picking up their children who are enrolled in the pre-school and day camp group.  Teens will have a designated area for reporting and where their group leader will meet them.

Teen Activities which are free include volleyball, softball, kickball, disc golf, gym with basketball courts, hiking trails, lake fishing (bring fishing gear, catch and release) quiet or reading time, mini 18 hole golf and a couple of mini talks by adult speakers.

Optional Activities for the teens at additional cost.

  • Ropes Course: high course, zip line. $20 per person, does require a minimum of 10 participants
  • Climbing Wall: at $5 per person, 1 hour, minimum of 5 participants
  • Laser Tag:  40 players at a time, $15 per person for one hour, $25 per person for two hours
